Friday & Saturday, February 17-18
Starhawk will present at the 18th annual PantheaCon Pagan conference.
Friday, 3:30 p.m.: "Magic in the Streets"
From Wall Street to the port of Oakland, from Justin Herman Plaza to squares
in hundreds of small towns all over the country, people have taken to
the streets throughout the fall of 2011 to protest the corruption and
injustice of our economic system and to call for something better. How
can magical folks bring something of our spirit into political activism?
How do we sensitively offer ritual and consciousness change to hard-core
activists or rationalist organizers? What are the magical tools we can
use to stay calm amidst chaos, to shift big energies and amplify change?
And how can activism deepen our magic and expand our spiritual practice?
Starhawk shares stories and tools from her years of magical activism and
from the Occupy movement.
Location: Cedar Room
Saturday, 11:00 a.m.: "The Magic of Co-Creation: Making Our
Circles Work"
It happens over and over again—a group of people come together,
fired up with passion to create change and magic. They begin with huge
inspiration and enthusiasm—and a year later, it’s all foundered
in the mire of conflict. We could have changed the world ten times over—if
we didn’t have to do it together with other people, those irritating,
self-righteous, controlling, fluff-brained clueless idiots who are our
friends and allies.
But we can do better. In her latest book, The Empowerment
Manual, A Guide for Collaborative Groups, Starhawk draws on four
decades of experience in circles and collectives to show us how to foster
connection, clear communication and positive power in ourselves and our
groups.
Location: Fir Room

Monday, April 9
Starhawk will speak in conversation with futurist John Renesch on the
topic of "The Great Growing Up."
Just about every system humans have created — government,
healthcare, economic, international security, education — is in
crisis. Collectively we face the choice of adulthood over adolescent ways
of relating to one another and our planet, the culturally immature ways
of living that have gotten us where we are. In his new book, The
Great Growing Up, futurist John Renesch will offer his ideas how
humanity can make this historic transition toward a secure, peaceful future. Starhawk,
author, Pagan, ritual artist and active trainer in the permaculture and
Occupy movements, will join John in dialogue about this urgent theme,
including ideas from her newest book, The Empowerment Manual: A Guide
for Collaborative Groups and her experience working on the front
lines of the Occupy Movement.
This event is part of SFSU's "Gandhi-King Season for
Nonviolence" series.
Time: 5:00-7:00 p.m.
